I recommend that chats are turned onto everyone by default. Many people have “feel free to pm me” in their bio but you cannot unless you are mutual, and I had to find the setting to turn mine off. Or maybe during setup it can ask “how would you like to recieve messages? everyone, mutual, liked by me”. By default I think everyone assumes you can pm them, so at least make them aware of what setting their profile is on.
